MEDIEVAL BASELARD DAGGER

SWITZERLAND, c. 1350–1400

A finely preserved excavated Swiss baselard dagger from the second half of the 14th century. The grip with a tang pierced for rivets fitting once a hardwood grip. The blade has one wide fuller of 10 cm. More often these daggers had double fullers like almost all the examples in the Swiss National Museum. The handle type could be referred close to LM 7079, cat no. 427.

The tang remains three rivets and the crossguard section one rivet. The overall condition for an excavated object is very fine and fully stabile.
