WHALING KNIFE FROM THE FAROE ISLANDS

FAROE ISLANDS, c. 1900–1930

A vintage or antique sailor’s or whaling knife made in the Faroe Islands, Denmark in the early 20th century. The handle and sheath have been made of dark ebony wood and finished with brass, mother-of-pearl and nickelsilver decorations. The scabbard decorations are depicting a harpoon and a porpoise. The forged carbon steel blade is of a typical shape and is in good condition. The leather belt strap is attached. The knife is in good vintage condition with minor damage on the scabbard wood and its brass wire decorations.
