DESCRIPTION
A vintage Central African ceremonial axe known as a Kilonda, attributed to the Songye people and manufactured probably during the first half of the 20th century in the area of present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo. The large, finely hammered steel blade features several ribs bound together and is decorated with three human faces on each side. The wooden handle is covered with copper, a precious material traditionally associated with high status and reserved for important members of the community.
CONDITION
The item is in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and wear. The blade is firmly attached to the handle.
