DESCRIPTION
An antique Indian elephant goad, known as an ankus or ankusha, manufactured probably in the 19th century in India for use by mahouts, the traditional handlers of working elephants. The ankus features a skillfully hand-forged steel hook with pierced tower-shaped tip. The black-painted wooden handle is lightly silvered and finished with gilded decorations and red-and-green lacquer surface. The opposite end of the shaft is finished with a rounded, ball-shaped terminal.

CONDITION
The item is in good untouched antique condition with small chips on the handle and overall wear on the decorations.
