DESCRIPTION
A woodcarving tool called the Adze from the Minangkabau region in Sumatra, Indonesia. Dates most likely to the 19th Century.
A small metal blade attached with split cane lashing to the curved handle. Handle is made of both wood and bone, with the bone part of the handle being beautifully carved with floral and weaving patterns. This adze seems to differ from its other counterparts by having its blade be parallel to the handle, rather than perpendicular.
CONDITION
The adze is in a very good antique condition with minor signs of wear from usage. The bottom of the bone handle is slightly damaged or worn.
