Balkan Ottoman / 18th Century

An astonishing antique dagger from the 18th century Balkan Ottoman area. The walrus bone grips are attached with silver rivets to the steel handle. The deeply engraved steel blade is decorated with geometrical pattern typical for the Balkan region. The wooden scabbard is covered with black leather and is fitted with silver mounts decorated with floral patterns and coral / turquoise insets. The dagger is in very nice antique condition with minor signs of wear. The grip decorations are missing coral insets.
A close reference is found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (36.25.763).
