Balkan Yataghan Dagger
Late 19th Century / Balkans or the Ottoman Empire
This is a typical yataghan style dagger with a recurved blade and a bone hilt. Brass parts of the handle are finely engraved with floral patterns. The blade is fine and unfullered with a separate chiseled area inlaid with gold patterns on one side. The other side is non-decorated. The scabbard is in great condition: it’s made of wood and covered in green moroccan leather and decorated with brass mounts.
For us it appears this dagger was made in the late 19th century, probably re-using an early 18th century kiliji-sabre blade. Very fine and attractive dagger.
