A high-quality Georgian style shamshir made by the master Tobshov as a museum display piece for the Russian Museum of Ethnography of St. Petersburg. The bone handle is fitted with gilded brass mounts decorated in Western European taste floral patterns. Underside the crossguard is engraved manufacturer markings ‘Master B. Tobshov 1939’. The three-fullered steel blade is marked with an etched text: “Сделано для музея народов СССР Мастер Б. Тобшев 1939” (Made for the Museum of the Peoples of the USSR Master B. Tobshev 1939). The wooden scabbard is covered in black leather and is fitted with matching gilded brass mounts decorated with polished stones. A unique object copying 18th century Georgian and European masterworks in good antique condition.
