EUROPEAN MILITARY SHAMSHIR IN OTTOMAN STYLE
950,00 €
WESTERN EUROPE, c. 1840–1860
An Ottoman style shamshir mamluk sabre made for a European military use in the mid 19th century. The handle is with steel crossguard and dark wooden grip scales resembling those of the British military patterns. The blade seems to be very tight damascus steel with some gilded floral ornaments remaining on the forte. Scabbard is missing.
Orientalism gained popularity amongst Europeans during the Napoleonic wars and campaigns through Italy and Egypt led manufacturers to produce individual sabres and even military patterns in Oriental style. Our sword is in good antique condition with light signs of wear.
Overall length 96 cm
