FRAGMENTAL HELMET CONVERTED INTO A BUCKET
Europe / 16th century

An interesting and unusual fragmental antique ‘bucket’ helmet which tells the story of arms and armour in daily use. When the object was not good enough for use or it was already outdated as a protective object, people tend to reuse them or make something new out of them.

This helmet has seen obvious use as a bucket or bowl for boiling water. There is one remaining oval hole on the side of the helmet for handle. The other side is unfortunately broken off long time ago. The helmet seems to have form of a tall cabasset although the neck area has been hammered and reshaped for better handling or pouring. The item is in very patinated but stabile condition. A very interesting and unusual find.
