A so-called German hirschfänger with a beautifully etched blade. The staghorn grip is decorated with brass acorns. The crossguard made in the form of deer hoofs and shellguard covering ricasso. The blade with scenes of hunters and wild prey, no maker’s markings. Leather scabbard with brass mounts and black leather suspension frog.
The blade of the dagger is unsharpened. Usually these were merely made for stabbing and most of the time they served as a status symbols of jaeger hunters when getting together in hunting associations. The dagger is in extremely nice condition showing only slight wear on scabbard.
