4800,00

Greek Yataghan Sword

c.1850 / Greece

Extremely fine greek yataghan sword. This fully silver-mounted yataghan has a typical recurved blade. The blade is signed and engraved; decorated with floral patterns and stamped with a deep mark of maker by the name of Sahar. Translated text says: “Ameli Sahar sahibi Murradi” (Work of Sahar, for the owner Murrad.) Silver work on this yataghan reminds us of the best greek quality work. Embossing and chiseling is finely executed, leaving plenty of space between the decorative elements. Scabbard is decorated with repeating floral and cloth-like patterns, a style that was copied from the late 18th century french pattern books. Typical eared hilt with a chevron pattern, contouring a firm grip. The style and engraving on the blade reminds us stylistically of the workmanship of the Crete islands.
