IMPERIAL RUSSIAN HUSSAR SABRE

HUSSAR SABRE
Imperial Russia / 1780s

Although it is not clear what is the exact year model for this regulation pattern officer sabre, it is a typical example for the period of Catherine II. The sabre has a plenty of original blue and gold remaining on the blade. A shallow lion head on the handle cap reminds the Polish and Russian hussar uniform style for carrying lynx or panther skin clasped around the shoulders. Typical for this pattern is also the flat wooden grip covered with ray or shark skin. The blade is a typical german manufacture style but etched cyrillic on the back ‘Solinge’. A rare model in this quality and in fine antique condition.
