MENPO WAR MASK

Japan / c. 1700–1750

A beautifully shaped menpo war mask finished with boar’s hair moustache. The exterior is of a black-lacquered iron, the interior has a typical red urushi lacquer surface. No signature visible, perhaps of Myochin school.

The mask is in overall good antique condition with nice patina. The left ear has taken a knock at some point and is slightly damaged.
