OTTOMAN YATAGHAN
OTTOMAN EMPIRE, late 18th century
A stunning, gilded silver-mounted and bone-handled Ottoman yataghan from the last part of the 18th century. The wooden scabbard has been covered with cloth and fitted with large silver mounts. The blade has been marked by the maker and it has a distinct fishbone-type of damascus pattern typical for the Constantinople (Istanbul) workshops. The sword and its scabbard are in good antique condition with some original gilding still remaining on the silver mounts.
