SCANDINAVIAN SNAPLOCK SLEIGH PISTOL
SCANDINAVIAN 18TH CENTURY
An interesting and early Scandinavian snaplock (snaphane in Swedish) sleigh pistol modified from a larger hunting gun during its working life. The snaphane was basically very close to the Spanish Miquelet lock or Caucasian flintlocks with slight differences. Recognizable from its long and curved cock that worked with flintstone hitting the firesteel. The stock has been nicely cut and fitted with new barrelband while other end has been shortened and nicely carved in new shape to adapt in hand. Untouched brown patina with perfectly working lock mechanism. An unusual weapon made to protect a Scandinavian peasant’s travels by horses or sleigh.
A pleasant curiosity to any firearms collection.
