SMALLSWORD WITH A SILVER HILT
FRENCH c. 1780
A fine silver-hilted smallsword with an engraved triangular blade. The pommel and crossguard with pierced and gilded decorative floral patterns. The blade is etched with decorative patterns typical for the period of mid-to-late 18th century. The copperbound grip is original and with some remains of gilding. The main plate has a separate smaller decorative plate giving some more three-dimensional aspect and locking the parts more firmly together. The pommel shows facetted decoration which became more popular towards the 1800s. The sword is in very fine overall condition.
