MEDIEVAL BRAZIL NUT POMMEL

EUROPEAN c. 1150–1250

A medieval brazil nut sword pommel in an unusual oblong form. This type of pommel is more common in Germanic regions and similar objects can be found in the Swiss National Museum no. 15673 and no. 10116 (catalogues 15 & 16). The pommel is in excavated condition and its surface has been cleaned and stabilized.
