SPAIN / PORTUGAL, 19th Century
A highly unusual plate in the Gothic style of c. 1450. The plate seems to be a 19th century copper electrotype copy of an unknown Renaissance masterpiece. The whole plate is depicted in classical biblical sceneries embossed and chiselled in high relief. The center of the plate has a coat of arms, possibly of Spanish or Portuguese origin. The original piece has most probably been made of gold or silver.
Our plate seems to be a unique object on the market and no other examples of original Renaissance ones or this type of electrotype copies are not currently known by us. The plate is in very fine condition with some gaps at the edge.
