AUSTRIAN 16TH CENTURY KHEVENHÜLLER SHOULDER PLATE

920,00

SHOULDER ARMOUR PIECE OF THE KHEVENHÜLLER FAMILY
Austria / c. 1580

A rare and fine shoulder defense plate. Armour piece for the left shoulder, once being a part of an Almaine collar. (Neck defense connected with two shoulder protection plates.) Shoulder plate is constructed of 7 separate plates, all embossed with a center stripe, and the last plate is embossed with acorns and oak leaves. The leather straps on the back are original. Originally this piece had been a striking two-collar type with the acorns and stripe being polished white and the background blackened with burnt linseed oil.

Acorn with leaves is a well-known symbol of the Khevenhüller family, which means that this type of armor has been used by a guard of the castle.
