RAPIER FOR A CHILD
England, c. 1630
A miniature rapier with a diamond-sectioned blade and a brass hilt, fitted with an octagonal pommel. The complicated, protective brass crossguard remains plenty of original silver finish. The gilded copper wire grip has been professionally restored remaining the original turkshead knots. The ricasso part of the blade is covered with a red velvet.
The style of the hilt and the octagonal pommel most closely resemble the English full-sized rapiers of the 1630s. Swords and armour made for children are very rare and seldom seen outside the museums. The overall condition of this sword is extremely fine.
Overall length 67 cm
Blade length 55 cm
